no, the weekly deadlines actually sound very helpful, as my brain also does the whole “OOOH SHINY!” routine.
It definitely helps me. That’s the one fic where I actually have a detailed outline put down so every time I finish a scene, we go through and figure out where I should be by the next Sunday. It’s handy!
